A Tuscany tour unlike most - featuring not only the exquisite Chianti Classico and Brunello di Montalcino wine producing areas but also Maremma-the land of the Super-Tuscans and the relatively unknown and "hottest" new destination in this most popular region characterized by lush landscapes, nature preserves, pine forests, beaches, tiny coves and ancient towns not household names even in Italy. Remnants of Etruscan, Roman and Medieval cultures, their architecture and oenogastronomic traditions make this part of Tuscany exquisitely rich and unique.
Tuscany’s magnificent and celebrated countryside will spread before us as we make our way through Chianti Classico territory and visit top producers Fontodi, Castello dei Rampolla, Fèlsina and Montevertine.
Traveling south we will reach the famed Brunello producing zones where more legendary estates such Poggio di Sotto, Soldera, and Biondi Santi and other prestigious winemakers will open their cellar doors to us.
Our journey will take us further south into Etruscan territory where our first stop will be in Suvereto - today it is admired as one of the most beautiful hamlets in Italy. Walking through its hilly and winding streets will no doubt help us work up an appetite for our first of several, delicious Maremman meals.
The focus of our attention and palate of course is the wine and the Super-Tuscans will be very eloquently represented by the wines of the likes of Tenuta dell’Ornellaia, and Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia, Gaja Ca` Marcanda,Tua Rita and Le Macchiole.
There will be opportunities to savour some of the best in Tuscan cuisine, served in exquisite balance with their wines, at estates such as Tenuta San Guido, Ornellaia, Sassicai or Tua Rita!. Other meals will reflect a mix of local and traditional Michelin-starred restaurants all of which are sure to elevate everyone’s palate. Pasta, soup, seafood or meat, you can be sure it will be something deliciously authentic!
In Maremma, the magnificent coastline is often visible from the many, highly perched vantage points and there is no doubt the proximity to the sea provides very distinct characteristics to the Maremman food and its highly acclaimed wines. Even our home in Maremma for the last two nights, is a magnificent beachfront resort whose extensive grounds, beautiful private beach and spa facilities will provide the perfect setting to truly appreciate the bounty that this part of Tuscany has to offer.
A fitting end to this amazing week will see us having our "aperitivo rinforzato" (aperitif and antipasti), a tasting-menu seafood dinner with paired wines at a Michelin 1*, beachfront restaurant, as we watch the golden sun set on the distant horizon.
Alla salute and arrivederci in Toscana!
